ABOUT Blue Dot Northumberland

A Brief History

Blue Dot Northumberland began in 2017 as part of the national Blue Dot movement of the David Suzuki Foundation. The local campaign worked to promote recognition of the right to a healthy environment in federal law. More than 4,000 people in Northumberland supported the initiative, all municipalities in the county, and Alderville First Nation.

This broad community support helped advance recognition of the right to a healthy environment in the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.

Blue Dot Northumberland’s leadership and community engagement were recognized with environmental awards from Cobourg and Hamilton Township.

What We Do

BDN advocates for environmental and community priorities by engaging with all levels of government. We bring forward issues, share them with community groups, and raise them with our government representatives and through the public election forums we host.

Our work includes participating in community events, organizing rallies, film screenings, workshops, and providing speakers and research to inform and empower the public.

BDN also collaborates with local, provincial, national, and international organizations. We provide a balanced approach to our information.

Through these partnerships, we contribute to strategic planning initiatives, participate in discussions on Official Plan amendments, and work with governments on issues that affect our communities.
